MAMAMOO recently released the song and music video for their digital single, “New York“, ahead of their full comeback in October.
The funky bassline definitely gave it a MAMAMOO feel, but the tempo was a bit slower than I thought was ideal for a song like this. Probably the best sections were the post-chorus and the bridge, the former of which added a nice element to the song and the latter providing a quality interlude to prevent it from being overly repetitive.
If it’s possible for a track to sound like a pre-release track that’s just meant to fill space until the actual pop comeback in October, “New York” is it. That’s not to say it’s bad, but it’s also just there for the most part, and mainly whets my appetite for the main course.
