Dragon Zakura drama getting a sequel with Abe Hiroshi set to return

The popular drama (based on the manga) Dragon Zakura is getting a sequel live-action show and Abe Hiroshi is set to return, which makes me 15 years ago super hyped.

Hiroshi Abe is cast in TBS live-action drama series “Dragon Zakura 2.” The drama series is a sequel to 2005 TBS drama series “Dragon Zakura” and is based on manga series “Dragon Zakura 2” by Norifusa Mita. Hiroshi Abe will reprise his character of high school teacher Kenji Sakuragi in the sequel drama series.

The original aired back in 2005, which is exactly why this is relevant to me.

Kenji Sakuragi is a destitute lawyer and one-time member of a motorcycle gang. A failure as a lawyer, he takes a position as a high school teacher and takes on the challenge of preparing a special advanced class for entrance to the prestigious Toudai University.

The sequel’s plot is set a decade later.

10 years after Kenji Sakuragi (Hiroshi Abe) left Ryuzan High School, the school is in a downturn. Ryuzan High School once produced many students that were admitted into the University of Tokyo, but not so anymore. To get the school out of its downturn, Kenji Sakuragi is sent an offer to return to Ryuzan High School.

Not sure if this will end up being just a nostalgic trip or not, but the brand itself is enough to pique my interest, especially with Abe Hiroshi set to return. Of course, the entire cast is what helped make the original, and who else will be involved is yet to be determined.
