Following the wild success of trot-based shows, Mnet is now pivoting to folk music, and so far the audition program Folk Us has provided some interesting entries that are relevant to K-pop as contestants have reimagined popular songs as folk tracks.

Lee Hyun – SHINee’s “Sherlock”
Song Yerin – Red Velvet’s “Bad Boy”
Jun Bum Sun – BTS’s “Dynamite”
While it probably has a lot to do with the contestant himself, SHINee’s “Sherlock” in this mode was especially cool.
My favorite performance of a non-idol song was 세번째다락방 cover of Windy City’s “Elnino Prodigo”, complete with folk beat boxing.
