Lee Jung Jae made history as the first Asian to win the Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama award at the Emmy Awards for his role in Squid Game. Meanwhile, director Hwang Dong Hyuk made history of his own by taking home a win for Outstanding Directing In A Drama Series, the first non-English drama to do so.
The show was also nominated in other categories as well, like Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series (Hwang Dong Hyuk), Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama (Jung Ho Yeon), Outstanding Supporting Actors In A Drama (Park Hae Soo, Oh Young Soo).
Additionally, Lee Yoo Mi took home a win at the Creative Arts Emmys for her impactful guest spot. She was the first Korean actress to accomplish this.
The show also won for Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode, Outstanding Stunt Performance, and Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More).
Happy for them. An entertaining and, most importantly for awards, popular show that makes Korean drama fans mald (yes yes, we know it’s not the best Korean show ever).
