FinKL are reuniting for their first comeback in 21 years and for ‘sustainable activities’

Out of seemingly nowhere, it was announced the first generation girl group Fin.K.L would be making their first comeback in 21 years since Forever Fin.K.L back in 2005.

GEMSTONE E&M made the announcement, saying, “All four members—Lee Hyori, Ock Joo Hyun, Lee Jin, and Sung Yuri—are preparing for a full-group reunion of Fin.K.L.” The company says this will be for “sustainable activities”, so presumably more than a one-off thing, “Fin.K.L is a group with symbolic significance in the history of South Korean popular music. We will sequentially unveil various activities so that we can create new moments with fans who have waited for Fin.K.L for a long time.”

In a way, I suppose this reunion isn’t as surprising as the one even in 2005, despite that just being seven years after their 1998 debut and went on hiatus in 2002. Back then there was still bad blood between the members, but after they literally made a variety show out of hashing it out on Camping Club in 2019 and have since seemingly maintained closer relations than before.

Hey, no complaints from me that we get more shameless nostalgic material, and perhaps more importantly that it’s seen as a viable way to cash in compared to before. Guess we truly are the older generation with disposable income now as they’ve said.
