Actress Barbie Hsu dies at age 48 after contracting pneumonia caused by the flu

In a tragic story that understandably came as a shock to many, it made the rounds yesterday that actress Barbie Hsu had died in Japan at age 48 due to pneumonia caused by the flu, and that was eventually confirmed by her sister.

Hsu, better known as “Da S” which means “Big S,” caught the flu when she visited Japan with her family during the Lunar New Year, according to her younger sister, Dee Hsu, also a famed TV host. Dee Hsu said the pneumonia was a flu complication.
“I am grateful that in this lifetime I was able to be her sister, taking care of each other and being companions. I will forever be thankful for her and miss her!” Dee Hsu said in a statement on Monday, without specifying where and when her sister died.

At the time of her death, she was married to CLON member DJ Koo, who she wed in 2022.

While her career spanned decades, she’s likely most well-known from 2001’s Meteor Garden, which is one of those shows that gained hype to the point that I think everybody who was interested in Asian entertainment during that period has watched it.

RIP
