Recently on social media, a clip of 2NE1 member Sandara Park went viral, with the member facing criticism for a story she relayed to member Minzy. In the story, a 19-year-old Sandara was approached by a “cute guy” who asked for her number. When she finds out that the guy is actually a 14-year-old, she lies to him about being 16 so he wouldn’t think the age gap was weird, and they eventually went on dates to like the movies and arcade and stuff.
It’s a video from May of 2024 from Sandara’s own YouTube channel and it’s played off as a wholesome, cute event.

She revealed that they stopped speaking because Dara debuted shortly after and she had to reveal she was 19 years old.
You may notice that you can’t find that exchange in the video anymore.
Well, as criticism of the story spread further and further, including in the comments on the video itself, the person who presumably runs the channel updated with a message saying that the video was re-edited to avoid misunderstandings.

Yeah, I’ve seen fans trying to defend Sandara by claiming there was a cultural component, saying it’s not that bad, and/or explaining that it was technically legal anyway, but (rightly) I cannot see a scenario where something like this is able to be ignored, much less kinda skimmed over, if it was a veteran male idol telling the same story.
At best, it’s completely creepy to lie to a kid in order to make them comfortable enough to go on dates with you (no matter how casual), and she seemed to know it as well, or else why lie? At worst, it’s literally grooming a kid, and the only thing that stopped her was the start of her career. I realize she and her team are likely just hoping it doesn’t spread further, hence the curt response, but I feel like it deserves more of an explanation and/or apology than a one-sentence hand-wave and vague legal threats.
