After some creative buildup, Starship Entertainment has revealed KiiiKiii, their new girl group with the bizarre name (good luck to me on remembering the amount of i’s). It’ll be a five-member outfit consisting of Sui, Haum, Jiyu, Leesol, and Kya. They kick their careers off with a music video for “I DO ME” off their UNCUT GEM debut album next month.
As far as first impressions go, this is honestly pretty rough, as the listener is immediately greeted with an effects-heavy vocals that are almost sound coached by YG Entertainment, and a song that could generously be described as chill. Put it this way, if this was on my Korean indie playlist I go through every week, I’d have skipped past it pretty quickly. While the tone of music video feels appropriately carefree, adventurous, and playful, it’s not really an effective introduction to the members.
Honestly, my only takeaway from this is that I hope their other single goes in a very different direction, and they can mostly only go up from here.
