It’s been something like a fever dream of late for second-generation fans as the nostalgia wave continues unabated. SECRET’s surprise reunion and comeback was one thing, but at least with them we know three of the members were always cool with each other. But now Jewelry have reunited on Seo In Young‘s YouTube channel for a Killing Voice type of video, and the even bigger shocker is that it comes with all four members most associated with the group.
Somehow Seo In Young got Jo Min Ah and Lee Ji Hyun back behind the mic for the first time since 2006. Of course Park Jung Ah was there, and they also included later addition Ha Joo Yeon. While the group did make individual appearances in 2018 and 2022 with their 2008-14 lineup, this is the first time their 2002-07 lineup has been back together since they parted, and I honestly didn’t even know at least a few of them were still on speaking terms. Kinda floored.
Well, however this got together, I’m grateful. And like in Killing Voice, the quintet perform a medley of their hits, with “Again“, “Tonight“, “I Really Like You“, “Super Star“, “One More Time“, and “Love Story” making up the six songs chosen.
Great stuff, but I’m still kinda shocked at what I’m watching. Validating that surprise is this was dropped less than 24 hours ago and already has over two million views and 13,000 comments (though Seo In Young has become quite a sensation as a YouTuber, kinda unsurprising given how she is).
In the talk section at the end, you can kinda see what I alluded to earlier, as Seo In Young apologizes to Jo Min Ah for not inviting her to their wedding, confirming what I assume was obvious that they didn’t get along at that time. She also had some unspoken issues with Lee Ji Hyun, though to be fair Seo In Young seemed to have issues with a lot of people. As such, you can see what it means to Seo In Young in particular that they publicly buried the hatchet, and probably more than performing, she seems relieved that they all came out for her and that everybody gets to see them united.
If this is nostalgia bait, then consider me baited. I’m chomping away at that fucking fishing hook like my damn life depends on it.
