It’s not quite Dreamcatcher Junkie since it’s not quite Dreamcatcher, but I’ve finally gotten around to compiling the stuff from UAU’s recent comeback with “GENE”.
The pluses of this are that it’s much better than their debut song and that they look amazing. Really, I suppose it’s a bit of a novelty aspect to it as well, as I’m just glad they’re continuing on in some capacity for their own desires and because it makes a future Dreamcatcher reunion more likely.
That said, I would be lying if I said I got as excited for this brand of trendy music as I did for Dreamcatcher’s offerings. “GENE” would’ve weirdly been more useful as a chill background summery song it was in the verses, as while overly simplistic, you could lay back in your chair or bed and dream away. The chorus kinda goes for that danceable repetitive sing-talk thing that’s become popular and is also something I’ve found consistently rather off-putting. But hey, people in the comments of the Rundown articles defend those choices from other groups, so I guess it could work for them (nah, more likely they just like the group, but I digress).
Look, if visuals are going to be a main selling point, you have to include the promos featuring that, I figure.

They also released a performance video for one of their B-sides in “Tuesday”, which is understandably not the lead single, but is definitely the better song, at least in terms of being a playlistable option that’s easy to groove along to.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
