‘Law Of The Jungle’ demotes 3 staff, issues apology again over Thailand debacle

Thailand were righteously pissed at SBS, ‘Law Of The Jungle‘, and actress Lee Yeol Eum for illegally removing and eating giant clams during an episode. SBS promised to do an investigation, and in the end they suspended three staff and issued another apology.

SBS held a personnel committee meeting on July 18 regarding the “Law of the Jungle in Lost Island” production team’s capture of giant clams in Thailand. The decision was made to issue a warning, probation, and salary reduction to the entertainment department head, CP (chief producer), and producer, respectively, and the producer has been removed from the “Law of the Jungle” production team. In addition, SBS has terminated VOD streaming of all “Law of the Jungle in Lost Island” episodes to minimize the discomfort of viewers, and an apology to viewers will be broadcast on the [July] 20 episode of “Law of the Jungle.” We will do our best to prevent recurrences by conducting thorough preliminary research and by providing a manual for the prevention of similar incidents and legal risks overseas. Our apology to viewers is as follows: We apologize to viewers. SBS once again expresses deep apologies for not having sufficient knowledge of the local regulations in regards to the filming and hunting of giant clams in the”‘Law of the Jungle in Lost Island” episodes in Thailand. SBS has terminated VOD streaming of all “Law of the Jungle in Lost Island” episodes in order to minimize the discomfort of viewers. In the future, we promise to do our best to prevent recurrences by conducting thorough preliminary research and by providing a manual.

I mean they had to do something because they had obviously pissed off Thailand but also had no support at home either as netizens were calling out SBS on their bullshit.

That said, this is just an internal punishment and there’s no way of telling how much of this is real and how much is just for show. Ironic.
