Hyori & YoonA apologize for going to karaoke during COVID-19 pandemic

Hyori and SNSD’s YoonA rececntly did an Instagram Live broadcast where they were doing karaoke, and that prompted immediate backlash from fans/netizens with COVID-19 is still going on.

Shortly after they went live, while perusing the comments, Lee Hyori asked, “Are we not supposed to go to karaoke?” Meanwhile, YoonA replied to concerned commenters by reassuring them, “We came wearing masks.” Not long afterwards, the two stars apologized and promised to return before ending their broadcasts early.

The two singers have now both issued apologies.

Hello, this is Lee Hyori. I am currently deeply reflecting on the fact that my behavior last night was not appropriate for a time when I should still have been exercising caution. I’ve been too excited these days, so I was not able to think deeply about my actions. As an unnie [older sister or older friend], I also feel sorry to YoonA. In the future, I will be more careful and behave more cautiously. Once again, I would like to apologize.

Hello, this is Lim YoonA. First of all, I am sincerely reflecting on myself for causing concern due to my careless action.. I apologize.. My thoughts and judgment were poor during this period when everyone is having a hard time and should be careful. I will put in much effort to act more cautiously from now on. I am deeply reflecting for not being attentive of the medical professionals and people of the nation who continue to work hard for COVID-19. I once again apologize for causing concern to everyone…

We’ve been down this road multiple times already and I still come away feeling generally the same about the cases without much more to add.

It’s understandable to an extent, but I suppose it just sucks to live in the reality where we might be having to deal with this for a long time more.
