[Update] YG reportedly charged with witness intimidation in attempt to cover up B.I’s drug case + B.I indicted for drug use

Back in May of 2020 it was revealed that YG may be reinvestigated for interference related to the drug case of former iKON member B.I. Now it’s being reported that he will indeed be charged for threatening a witness in connection with attempting to cover up the crime.

Yang Hyun Suk was previously investigated under suspicions of attempting to cover up his artist’s drug controversy with money. He will soon be put on trial. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office announced on June 7, 2021, that he violated the Additional Punishment Laws on Specific Crimes due to him threatening retaliation in order to cover up the initial crime. According to investigations, Yang Hyun Suk attempted to change a witness’ statement to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The witness (and whistleblower) made a statement regarding drug purchase(s) made by his company artist, B.I, in 2016.

Like most things in life, this doesn’t need to be a black and white issue in terms of everybody involved either being all good or all evil. No, you don’t have to care about B.I. using drugs or agree with the way drugs are treated in general. No, you don’t have to think the whistleblower is a good person. Yes, you should care about witness intimidation done by people with power and money in attempts to distort the truth.

Honestly, I never thought anything serious would come of this, and I’m still skeptical as to whether YG will actually face punishment, but this is further than I thought they would be wiling to go.

Update

B.I has been indicted on suspicion of drug use.

On June 7, it was revealed that the violent crimes department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted B.I on the charge of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, Etc. on May 28. On the same day, Yang Hyun Suk was indicted for threatening retaliation. Both were indicted without detention.
